The judges been revealed for the Vintage Independent Bookshop of the Year Award, which is to return for a second year.
The Booksellers Association’s head of membership services Meryl Halls is on the panel; alongside Vintage author and Independent film critic Anthony Quinn; The Bookseller reporter Charlotte Williams; and Kate Gunning, Random House Group key account manager for independents.
The award was founded last year as part of the Random House Group imprint’s 21st birthday celebrations, and celebrates shops which "demonstrate the most passion and creativity in promoting and selling Vintage books". The inaugural winner was the White Horse Bookshop in Marlborough, Wiltshire.
Gunning said: “Coordinating the 2011 competition was an absolute joy. We had a brilliant response, with entries from independent bookshops the length and breadth of the country, and the standard of those entries was exceptionally high.”
White Horse bookseller Liz Loikkanen said: “To win the competition meant a great deal to all of us and was a wonderful boost to morale. Good luck to all this years’ entrants and above all have fun!”
This year’s winner will be announced at the end of September, and will receive £1,000, six bottles of champagne, enhanced trade terms on all Vintage titles ordered in the first six months of 2013 and a “VIP ticket” giving special privileges, such as signed stock. There will also be a prize going to the two runners-up.
The deadline for this year’s entries is 31st August 2012, and shops can apply online
