Thanks to the initiative of German publisher C H Beck,two classic works of Icon Janet Frame will be reissued inGermany this year to coincide with the status of New Zealand as special guestat the Frankfurt Book Fair. The first title is a new translation of JanetFrame’s first novel Owls DoCry (Wenn Eulen Schrein,1957) and will be released in Germany this month. The first edition of Wenn Eulen Schrein waspublished in 1961 and was Janet Frame’s very first foreign translation. Laterin the year Beck will release a fresh edition of Frame’s autobiography, whichhas been as popular in Germany as it has been everywhere else.
John Psathas’ (Laureate) soundtrackfor the Salman Rushdie short story Inthe South has now been released as an eBook by Booktrack. The score was written for and recorded live by the NZSO. John now awaitsthe outcome of his nomination for ‘Global Greek of the Year’ award. Promoted by Global Greek World, the award is an online forum for the 7 millionGreeks who live outside their native land. Online voting determines the winnerand closes Sunday 19 February. In addition Goodfor Nothing, the 'pavlova western' feature film for which Johnwrote the "gritty, dirty" soundtrack, has its cinema release in NewYork on Friday 9 March and in New Zealand on Thursday 3 May. TheNZ School of Music will release an original soundtrack CD of the music.
